The Albion Chamber of Commerce is a voluntary non-profit organization of the business community advancing the interests of businesses, industries and professional firms in the Albion area. The strength of the chamber lies in attracting the greatest number of members and creating a united pool of resources from which to draw ideas, energy and finances.

The Chamber is people just like you who realize that through the Chamber they can accomplish collectively what no one of them can do individually. The Chamber's expenses are funded by its members. Ultimately, the Chamber of Commerce is "Business Helping Business".

The Chamber is run by a Board of Directors elected by the Chamber members. The board, serving without pay, sets the policies for the Chamber.

The Chamber meets the third Monday of each month at noon at the Pondi Restaurant in Albion. All members are welcome and encouraged to attend the monthly board meeting. The Albion Chamber of Commerce address is: PO Box 63, Albion, IN  46701-0063.

Brief History of Albion

Early Settlers of the county discovered several mounds of which contained a large number of bones and artifacts.  As a result, it is believed that this area was inhabited by the Mount-Builders, a race of people who predated the Indians. The primary tribes of Indians in this area were the Miami and the Potawotomies. These tribes were fairly peaceful, but around 1912 they were confined to reservations and later moved westward.

Noble County was originally part of the Great North West Territory. Later on February 6, 1836, by an act of the state legislature, Noble County was established and named after James Noble, who served as a United States Senator for Indiana from 1816 until his death in 1831. Noble's family was originally from Virginia. James Noble had been described as an eloquent speaker and frontier lawyer.

Albion, often known as "The Center", was chosen to be the county seat in 1846, and a committee was appointed to choose a name for the town. Albion, also an ancient name for Great Britain, was chosen. Albion was the name of a town in New York where one of the members had previously lived. A courthouse was built; however, it burned to the ground in 1859. The present courthouse was constructed in 1889 at a cost of $113,000.
